Slovenia: Net electricity generation drops 21% in July 2025 amid higher imports and mixed energy supply trends

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in July 2025 fell by 21% compared to the same month last year. Total net generation reached 1,095 GWh, a 4% decrease from June 2025.

Electricity production at thermal power plants dropped 70% year-on-year, while hydropower output declined by 28%. The Krško nuclear power plant produced slightly less electricity, down 1%, whereas wind and solar generation increased by 12%.

Slovenia imported 1,025 GWh of electricity in July, a 25% increase compared to July 2024, and exported 1,051 GWh, down 6% from the same period last year. Household consumption remained stable at 220 GWh, while commercial users consumed 605 GWh, up 3% from June.

Overall, the supply of energy commodities rose in July, except for heating oil, which fell by 41%, natural gas by 2%, and diesel by 1%. Month-on-month increases were recorded in other petroleum products (92%), kerosene (23%), hard coal (20%), LPG (17%), coke (7%), and petrol (3%). Compared to July 2024, kerosene supply grew by 40%, other petroleum products by 31%, LPG by 26%, hard coal by 19%, natural gas by 15%, and heating oil by 3%.
