Solar and wind energy trends in Europe: August 11–18 forecasts

During the week of August 11, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy production rose for the third consecutive week in the French and German electricity markets compared to the previous week. The French market experienced the largest increase, up 13%, while Germany saw an 8.0% rise. In contrast, solar PV production declined in Southern European markets, reversing the previous week’s upward trend. Italy recorded the largest drop at 9.3%, followed by Portugal with a 5.8% decrease and Spain with a 4.7% decline.

Both France and Germany also set new daily solar PV production records for August, surpassing the highs from the previous week. On Monday, August 11, Germany generated 437 GWh and France produced 155 GWh.

According to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, for the week of August 18, solar PV generation is expected to increase in the Spanish market, while it is projected to decrease in Italy and Germany.

In the second week of August, wind energy production grew in Portugal and France compared to the previous week. The Portuguese market recorded a 53% increase, and France rose by 48%, reversing the declines of the previous two and three weeks, respectively. Meanwhile, Germany, Italy, and Spain continued to experience decreases for the second consecutive week. Germany registered the largest drop at 42%, followed by Spain at 25% and Italy at 30%.

For the week of August 18, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that wind energy generation will increase in Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, while it is expected to decline in France, AleaSoft reports.
