The operator of Bulgaria’s Kozloduy nuclear power plant has announced that Unit 6 will be taken offline at the end of this week, on July 19, to address a small coolant leak discovered in the third steam generator. The scheduled maintenance is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
This precautionary shutdown is part of efforts to maintain the facility’s high safety standards while ensuring that the electricity network remains stable and reliably supplied during the summer months. The maintenance activities will be conducted in close coordination with the transmission system operator ESO to minimize any potential disruptions to electricity supply.
Ongoing monitoring has shown that all measurements related to the leak remain well below the limits set by technical regulations. At no point have any safety thresholds been breached, and radiation levels throughout the plant, including in work areas, have stayed completely unchanged.
