Montenegro: EPCG plans 137MW Stedim solar power plant near Nikšić

Montenegro’s state-owned power utility EPCG plans to build the Stedim solar power plant near Nikšić, with an installed capacity of approximately 137 MW. Once operational, the plant is expected to generate around 169.7 GWh of electricity annually.

The company has submitted documentation to the national Agency for Environmental Protection, requesting approval to conduct a full environmental impact assessment. The project previously secured urban and technical approvals in March, moving it closer to construction.

The proposed solar park will cover around 250 hectares and include 23 subarrays, each containing 10,272 photovoltaic modules arranged in regular rows to reach the targeted capacity.

To protect the nearby archaeological site of Stedim Cave, no solar panels will be placed within 150 meters of the cave entrance. This buffer zone ensures preservation while allowing the project to move forward.

EPCG emphasized the site’s strong solar potential, noting high irradiation levels that make it ideal for a large-scale solar facility.
