Hungary: Electricity prices soar in November 2024, trading volumes decline

In November 2024, the average price of electricity on the day-ahead market (DAM) of the Hungarian energy exchange HUPX reached 163.72 euros/MWh, marking a significant 78% increase compared to the previous month, when the average baseload price was 92.2 euros/MWh. The average DAM peak price also surged to 203.46 euros/MWh, a 104% rise from October.

The total traded volume on the day-ahead market in November was 2.38 million MWh, which is 8% lower than October’s 2.58 million MWh and 8.8% lower than the 2.61 million MWh traded in November 2023. The average daily traded volume for the month stood at 79,390 MWh.

On the intraday market, the total traded volume for November amounted to 786,650 MWh, representing a 2% decrease from the previous month. The average daily traded volume on the intraday market was 26,222 MWh. The average price for the hourly product on the intraday market in November was 178.76 euros/MWh, an 83% increase compared to October.
