Slovenia’s largest renewable electricity producer, state-owned HSE, has announced plans to expand its Prapretno solar power plant in central Slovenia. The expansion will increase the plant’s capacity by 9.8 MW, bringing the total capacity to 12.8 MW. Additionally, a 7 MW battery storage system will be installed to enhance the plant’s flexibility and energy control.
The necessary construction permit for the expansion has already been obtained, with the upgraded facility expected to be fully operational by October 2025. The expanded plant will cover two municipalities, Trbovlje and Hrastnik, with HSE entering into agreements with both municipalities to sell 10% of the plant’s electricity at cost price. This agreement will allow the municipalities to provide lower-cost energy to public institutions.
Originally commissioned in April 2022, the Prapretno solar power plant has become one of Slovenia’s largest, playing a key role in the green transformation of the region, which was previously known for coal mining. The expansion underscores HSE’s commitment to boosting renewable energy production and supporting sustainable energy solutions in Slovenia.
