Romanian natural gas producer Romgaz has officially commenced operations at its new Damianca 55 well, located within the Caragele onshore gas field. This marks a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to expand production in the region.
In December 2023, Romgaz awarded contracts for the drilling of two additional wells in the Caragele deep area, which is estimated to contain around 30 billion cubic meters of gas. Prior to this, only one well was active in this section of the field. The successful operation of the Damianca 55 well is part of Romgaz’s strategy to unlock the full potential of the Caragele field.
Romgaz had previously stated that the deep section of the Caragele field, specifically wells 55 Damianca and 77 Rosetti, is of particular importance due to its promising reserves. Production tests from these wells revealed strong industrial flows, with Damianca 55 yielding between 0.11 and 0.22 million cubic meters of gas per day, alongside 14-59 tons of condensate daily.
The company also reported solid performance for the first nine months of this year. Romgaz’s total hydrocarbon production rose by 4.7%, reaching 23.8 million barrels of oil equivalent. Natural gas output increased by 4.4% to 3.67 billion cubic meters, while condensate production surged by 54% to 25,400 tons.
With the new well now online, Romgaz is poised to further enhance its production capacity and contribute to Romania’s energy security.
