Croatia: Electricity production declines in August 2024 amid increased imports and exports

According to the latest energy statistics from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, net electricity production in Croatia for August 2024 was 1,134 GWh, reflecting a 13.4% decrease from 1,310 GWh in August 2023.

In August, hydropower plants generated 398 GWh (35.1% of total production), thermal power plants contributed 415 GWh (36.6%), wind farms produced 160 GWh (14.1%), and solar power plants accounted for 91 GWh (8%).

During this period, Croatia imported 1,525 GWh of electricity, marking an 83.7% increase from last August’s 830 GWh. In contrast, electricity exports rose to 803 GWh, up 66.3% from 483 GWh in August 2023.

In terms of hydrocarbon production, Croatia produced 74 million cubic meters of natural gas in August 2024, which is a 23.3% increase compared to the same month last year. Natural gas imports decreased to 177 million cubic meters, down 36.6% from August 2023. Crude oil production reached 41,000 tons, a decline of 6.8% year-on-year, while the production of petroleum products fell to 299,000 tons from 354,000 tons in August 2023.
