Hungary surpasses 6,000 MW solar capacity target ahead of 2030 schedule

On Friday, August 23, the Hungarian Ministry of Energy reported that the total electricity production from solar systems over 50 kW reached 3,242 MW. According to MAVIR, the Hungarian electricity transmission system operator, by early August 2024, Hungary had brought a total of 3,688 MW of industrial solar power plants online. Nearly 90% of this capacity was in operation during the peak quarter hour earlier this month.

Including residential solar production, the country’s installed solar capacity has surpassed 6,000 MW, exceeding the 2030 target ahead of schedule. The Ministry noted that the installed solar capacity in Hungary is now approaching 6,800 MW.
