HEP has laid the foundation for a 41 million kuna (5.4 million euro) solar power plant, SE Cres.
Solar park will help strengthen the security of the electricity supply and will boost the energy independence of the Adriatic islands of Cres and Losinj, especially in times of increased demand during the summer tourism season, HEP said in a statement.
The new plant will have an installed capacity of 6.5 MW and will produce some 8.5 million kWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the needs of 2,500 households. The plant will spread over an area of 17 hectares, comprising 20,330 solar panels produced by local firm Solvis.
SE Cres will start producing electricity by the end of 2020.
HEP plans to build two more solar plants on the Cres island – the 4.14 MW SE Cres 2 and the 9.99 MW SE Ustrine.
