Deputies of the Energy Committee have decided to postpone the wholesale electricity market liberalization for one year until June 30, 2025. The deadline for the liberalization of the market for household consumers from 2026 is preserved.
The reasons for the three draft laws are unclear mechanisms, uncertainty regarding the determination of the base price, what the invoices will be, how VAT will be paid, and lack of funds in the FSES.
According to the Energy Act, the reform of the electricity market for residential consumers was supposed to start gradually from 1 July 2024. After that date, the National Electricity Company (NEK) would no longer serve as a public supplier. In addition, the price of electricity for residential consumers, currently determined by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR), was to be determined by the Council of Ministers.
