Electricity transmission network operator MAVIR said that peak summer electricity consumption was recorded on 28 August. Despite the extremely hot weather, electricity consumption in Hungary did not exceed the record set in 2021.
Hungary was hit by a heat wave at the end of August 2023, with high temperatures causing a code red heat alert. The peak system load was 6,626 MW on 28 August, between 07.30 and 07.45 PM, according to MAVIR. This summer, MAVIR recorded the second-highest peak on 22 August and the third one on 23 August.
The absolute summer record for electricity consumption in Hungary was set on 24 June 2021, when a system load of 6,940 MW was measured.
MAVIR added that due to the war and energy crisis situation, electricity consumption has dropped significantly, resulting in a decrease of approximately 8 % in consumption this year to date.
