The shares of leading electricity producer in Romania – Hidroelectrica [BSE: H2O] will be included in several indices of global equity index providers FTSE Russell and MSCI, the Bucharest Stock Exchange announced last week.
Hidroelectrica, which madeĀ its debutĀ on the BVB on Wednesday, is the first Romanian company to benefit from the fast entry mechanisms of FTSE Russell and MSCI, the Romanian bourse said.
Hidroelectrica shares will be included in the FTSE Global All-World Index, FTSE Global Large Cap Index and FTSE Emerging Index as of July 19, according to a notice published by FTSE Russell on Wednesday.
The shares of the renewable energy producer will also be part of MSCIās MSCI Frontier and MSCI Romania indices starting July 26, the index provider said in a separate announcement on Wednesday.
āWe are pleased that this interest is expressed both by the very high trading volumes on the first day, but also by the inclusion of Hidroelectrica shares in the FTSE Russell Emerging Markets and MSCI Frontier Markets indices through this rapid inclusion mechanism,” BVB president Radu Hanga said.
Hidroelectrica will play a key role in Romaniaās progress to Emerging Market status by MSCI, Hanga added.
Hidroelectrica is the seventh Romanian company to be included in the FTSE Global All-World Index, FTSE Global Large Cap Index and FTSE Emerging Index, and the fourteenth to be part of FTSE Russellās indices dedicated to emerging markets. The company will also mark Romaniaās twelfth entry in the MSCI Frontier IMI indices (Investable Market Indexes).
Hidroelectrica shares ended Wednesdayās trading session 5.77% higher than the IPO price, at 110 lei, giving the company a market capitalisation of 49.5 billion lei.
On Thursday, Hidroelectrica set a new record on the BVB in terms of the daily value of the liquidity on the equity segment, reaching over 821 million lei and surpassing the previous record of 326.7 million lei achieved in 2018.
