Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 5 February 2023 has decreased by 13.56 % compared to 2022

According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 5 February 2023 has decreased by 13.56 % compared to 2022 and reached 5.18 TWh.

Bulgaria’s electricity consumption also decreased in 2023, by 5.76 % reaching a total of 4.43 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 746.9 GWh in 2023, 42 % less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 4.55 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 11.79 % less than in 2022.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 4.51 % to 163.7 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 14.51 % to 178.1 GWh.
