Construction works on the new solar power plants owned by the MET Group – Gerjen Solar Park and Sojtor Solar Park have been completed and the solar power plants have been put into commercial operation. The solar parks cover a total area of 170 hectares in two Hungarian municipalities, where almost 180,000 solar panels have been installed.
The solar parks are connected to the electricity grid via newly installed high-voltage substations. Commissioning of SE MET Gerjen Solar Park (capacity 51 MWp) and MET Sojtor Solar Park (from 45 MWp) took place in several stages. The two power plants will produce green electricity that will cover the consumption of around 50,000 households.
For the refinancing of two existing solar parks (MET Dunai Solar Park and MET Kabai Solar Park), as well as for the financing of the purchase and construction of three new solar farms (among them the plants in Gerjen and Sojtor), the subsidiary of MET Group, MET Hungary Solar Park, successfully issued a bond in 2021, which was subsequently assigned a green rating.
The strategy of expanding the renewable portfolio of the MET Group envisages reaching an installed capacity of 2 GW by 2026.
As part of this strategy, MET Group and Singapore-based Keppel Infrastructure formed a joint venture company, Keppel MET Renewables, in November 2022 to explore the potential of renewable energy in Europe. During the last year, MET Group entered the market of renewable energy sources in four new countries, with acquisitions in Spain, Italy, Poland and Romania.
