Household and business electricity demand fell for the fourth month in a row in October, by 9.3% compared to the same month in 2021, a monthly report from the Greek Transmission Network Operator, IPTO, showed.
This trend reflects the efforts of customers to reduce their energy costs. At this rate, Greece is on track to meet national energy-saving targets.
Demand for electricity fell by 3.3% in September, by 13.2% in August, and by 11.8% in July.
Consumption in October amounted to 3,604 GWh, which is 9.3% less compared to 3,971 GWh in October 2021, according to the IPTO report.
Domestic electricity production also fell sharply last month, by as much as 22.9% compared to October 2021, to 3,155 GWh.
The market shares of electricity suppliers have also changed. PPC’s market share fell below 60% for the first time in months, to 56.7%.
Protergia, a member of the Mytilineos group, increased its market share for the second month in a row at the expense of PPC, to 12.9%.
Heron retained third place with 7.3% share, followed by Elpedison (6.5%), NRG (4.7%), Fysiko Aerio (2.3%), Volterra (2.3%) and others.
