According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first nine months of 2022 amounted to 39.13 TWh, which is 5.7 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data shows that industrial electricity consumption reached 29.25 TWh, which is 4.9 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 9.48 TWh, which is a 8.1 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 3.2 % amounting to some 395.5 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 41.61 TWh in the first nine months of 2022, which is 6.6 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1.2 % and reached 15.9 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 24.3 % to 10.75 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 2.1 % to 8.06 TWh. Production of wind power in January-September 2022 rose by 18.1 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 5.4 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.51 TWh, 3.7 % more compared to the first nine months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-September 2022 amounted to 5.11 TWh, which is by 9.1 % more compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 14.2 % and amounted to 6.44 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first nine months of 2022 amounted to 13,140 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.5 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 2,285.4 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 1.2 %), oil production reached 2,190.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.3 %), while production of natural gas reached 5,169.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.3 %).
