Romanian aluminium producer ALRO said that it was declared as selected investor at the tender for the construction of gas-fired power plant at Isalnita, launched by state-owned electricity producer Energy Complex (EC) Oltenia.
Chairman of the Board of Directors at ALRO Marian Nastase said that this partnership will offer the company the opportunity to diversify its business model, as the security of supply for electricity is a must for the aluminium industry and will support its long-term development plans in a very challenging business environment.
EC Oltenia is planning to build 850 MW gas-fired power plant that will replace two (315 MW each) coal-fired units of TPP Isalnita.
For about two years, EC Oltenia has been looking for partners for ten major investment projects in new electricity generation capacity, part of the restructuring and modernization plan approved in January 2022. The contract for nine of these projects have been awarded, which includes eight solar power plants (four will be built in partnership with OMV Petrom and the other four with Tinmar Energy), while the contract for the construction of gas-fired power plant at Turceni was signed with Tinmar Energy.
