According to the Energy Regulatory Commission (RKE) report for 2021, total electricity imports amounted to 2.94 TWh in 2021, with an average price of 111 euros/MWh.
Among top ten electricity imports, there are nine subsidiaries of foreign companies and only one local trader.
Local subsidiary of Slovenian GEN-I sold the largest amount of imported electricity in the Macedonian market, covering about 15.5 % of the demand. GEN-I sold 65 % of imported electricity in the domestic market, achieving revenues of 195 million euros, while 35 % of imported electricity was only transited through North Macedonia.
Among larger importers is EDS, local subsidiary of Greek PPC, with revenues of 69.5 million euros, EFT with revenues of 65.5 million euros, Danske Commodities with 32.6 million euros and Bulgarian Energy Wind with 12.1 million euros in revenues.
