The Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia announced on Friday that strategic documents on energy sources and the energy mix will be adopted after a wide public debate.
“What the energy mix will look like in the coming decades will be determined by strategic documents that will undergo a wide public debate, because the energy transition process is an issue that concerns all citizens and requires the broadest consensus,” the statement said.
On the occasion of various initiatives mentioned in public on conducting expert discussions on the decarbonization of the energy sector in Serbia, the Ministry reminded that last year a foundation was created for this process by adopting a new legislative framework in the field of energy, including the first special law on renewable energy. energy sources, as well as that a significant number of bylaws have been adopted.
As stated, the preparation of the most important strategic documents in the field of energy, the integrated national energy and climate plan of Serbia for the period until 2030, with projections until 2050 and the strategy for energy development for the period until 2040, with projections until 2050.
The documents also consider various scenarios of energy transition and goals in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources (RES) and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the ministry said.
In the process of drafting an integrated national plan, various scenarios for the development of the energy sector are being considered, which, among other things, include scenarios with nuclear energy.
As stated, the process of drafting strategic documents will analyze how to make Serbia energy safe, and the focus in the process of energy transition will be primarily on using the potential of RES and increasing energy efficiency.
“All scenarios will be put up for public discussion in order to hear the proposals and suggestions of everyone, including the economy, universities, the civil sector and citizens,” the ministry said, Biznis reports.
