Romania, Electricity consumption in the first eleven months of 2021 amounted to 50.82 TWh

According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first eleven months of 2021 amounted to 50.82 TWh, which is 4.7 % more compared to the same period in 2020.

The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 37.78 TWh, which is 3.9 % more compared to the same period last year. On
the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 12.56 TWh, which is a 6.9 % increase. Public lighting consumption rose by 5 % amounting to some 480.8 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 53.72 TWh in the first eleven months of the year, which is 6.1 % more compared to the same period in 2020.

Production in thermal power plants increased by 10.2 % and reached 20.05 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 13.1 % to 16.05 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 1.6 % to 10.25 TWh. Production of wind power dropped by 7.7 % compared to the same period of 2020, reaching 5.7 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.66 TWh, 0.3 % less compared to the eleven months of 2020.

Electricity exports in January-November 2021 amounted to 5.34 TWh, which is by 22.1 % more compared to the same period in 2020. At the
same time electricity imports increased by 4 % and amounted to 7.3 TWh.

Total production of primary energy resources in the first eleven months of 2021 amounted to 16,933 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 2.2 % more than in 2020. Coal production reached 2,958 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 17.5 %), oil production reached 2,848 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.1 %), while production of natural gas reached 6,599 million tons of oil equivalent (- 0.4 %).
