According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 13 June 2021 has increased by 10.54 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 20.7 TWh. In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 3.4 % reaching a total of 18.05 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 2.66 TWh so far in 2021, 107.97 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 16.18 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 4.84 % more than in 2020. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 11.69 % to 598.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 6.61 % to 895.9 GWh.
