The Oradea–Beckescsaba 400 kV overhead transmission line project was initiated in 2006, and since 2008 the Oradea Sud-Nadab section has been in conservation, due to difficulties related mainly to expropriation procedures.
CEO of Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica, Catalin Nitu visited the construction site of Oradea Sud-Nadab section of the 400 kV Oradea-Bekescsaba overhead transmission line.
The investment, which will increase the country’s interconnection capacity and contribute to the completion of Romania’s 400 kV ring, was resumed this summer after more than 12 years of blockages. Works on the section, worth almost one million euros, started in August and are performed by Electromontaj Bucharest, and should be completed within 12 months.
Nitu stressed that the completion of this line has an important role in securing the electricity supply in the northwestern part of the country. The benefits of this investment are related both to the well-being of local communities, by ensuring optimal conditions for the operation of internal transmission networks, and to achieving European objectives in terms of achieving the single electricity market and increasing the capacity of interconnection. The construction of this line will also mean the elimination of congestion in the northwest. We Oradea-Bekescsaba 400 kV Overhead Power Line project, a total investment of over 18 million euros, has been partially put into use since 2008, namely the 400 kV Nadab (RO)–Bekescsaba (HU) section with a length of 60 kilometers, of which 22 kilometers on the territory of Romania. The Oradea Sud–Nadab section has a total length of 72 kilometers and is partially completed.
The commissioning of the Oradea Sud–Nadab section will contribute to the completion of the 400 kV ring, Romania’s priority objective, with a significant impact on increasing operational safety and minimizing risks in the supply of electricity to consumers in the north western part of the country.
By completing the 400 kV Oradea Sud–Nadab section, the interconnection transfer capacity on the export direction will increase by 100 MW, and on the import direction by 300 MW, which contributes to Romania’s compliance with its obligations from the implementation of EU regulations.
